minä perhonen creates timeless, all-original garment textiles that are specially dyed, embroidered, and woven to recreate hand-drawn designs.
Ever since it was born in 2000, “tambourine” is one of minä perhonen’s trademark designs. The pattern features small dots of embroidery arranged in a circle, reminiscent of a tambourine. Because the base of the embroidered dots is drawn by hand, each dot holds a different expression. The pattern conveys how imperfections are beautiful and there is not one same thing in this world.
The “tambourine” design has appeared a few times in the past as Hobonichi Techos, but this time, we chose the classic navy and white color combination. The base fabric is a linen georgette that has an elegant sheen matched with the woven texture. Thick threads were roughly woven to create a supple texture.
The “butterfly-stopper” pen holders and cover interior are navy blue to match the textile. Two dotted lace bookmarks are attached.
About minä perhonen
minä perhonen is a fashion brand created by designer Akira Minagawa.
First founded in 1995 under the name minä, and renamed “minä perhonen” in 2003. In Finnish, “minä” means “I,” and “perhonen” means “butterfly,” expressing Minagawa’s hopes to create designs as light-hearted and beautiful as a butterfly’s flapping wings.
