Description:
[Sony Classical Masterpieces Collection 1000] These are the masterpieces of classical music that have moved the world for 100 years! From Casals to Midori Goto, Sony Music's two major classical labels, Sony Classical and RCA RED SEAL, have a wide variety of classical masterpieces, classic discs, super discs, fixed discs, lost discs, strange discs, rare discs, and treasures, including new liner notes and some world/Japan first CD releases, at an astonishing price! The series of two separate releases for 1,000 yen plus tax (1,500 yen plus tax for the 2-disc set) will continue in 2016. The first is a re-recording of Scholte's major work with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, which he performed with a handful of musicians. Scholte had already recorded this Verdi Requiem with the Vienna Philharmonic in 1967, when he had not yet taken up his post with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. This recording with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, which is being released on CD for the first time in Japan, is Scholtei's first attempt in ten years to perform Verdi's Requiem with an orchestra he could call his own. The soloists, including the matured Price, are well rounded, and the powerful yet sensitive chorus brings out the essence of the work. This is the only RCA recording of Scholte and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and it is interesting to note the difference in sound quality between the RCA and Decca recordings.Over 81 minutes long. ◆Time Limited Edition (until the end of March 2018) / First time on CD in Japan / Liner notes / Year of recording: June 1 & 2, 1977 / Location: Medina Temple, Chicago
