Description:

William Byrd, the greatest master of the English Renaissance, was born a few years after Lassus, the master of the Netherland, and lived a few years after Caccini, the leading figure of the early Baroque period. Although he was himself a Catholic, it should not be overlooked that he left not only Latin church music but also many worship songs with English lyrics for the Anglican Church. The latest recording, led by the brilliant Dublin-born Colm Curley, weaves together a small group of talented musicians who have worked with the Tallis Scholars, the Monteverdi Choir, the Sixteen, and other groups. A rich project! The interpretation of the performance is also noteworthy for its precise inclusion of the organ, in accordance with the theory that, with the advancement of musicology, a unique organ accompaniment with a full bass section was used prior to the Puritan Revolution.
