This is a Sigma DP2X, which you SHOULD NOT BUY unless you specifically want a Sigma DP2X. This is not a point & shoot camera in any capacity, despite having the body of a point & shoot camera: focusing is slow, high ISO performance is abysmal, resolution is low, and the RAW files are hard to work with. The point of the Sigma DP2X is the unique Foveon X3 sensor, which uses a completely different structure than a typical camera sensor. Instead of clusters of colour-filtered monochrome photosites which are averaged together to approximate colour at any one pixel coordinate- that's the Bayer system used by pretty much every other camera- the Foveon uses a single-point, three-layer structure which encodes colour for any pixel location by the depth of penetration into the photosite by the different wavelengths of light. Theoretically, this means that every pixel location is a true representation of its colour rather than an interpolation, and per-pixel sharpness can be higher than with a Bayer array, as there's no need for the Bayer demosaicing that can blur details. It does work- there's definitely something to it- but there are also drawbacks. For one, a Foveon needs a lot of light to work, so don't even think of cranking the ISO up past 400, because your picture will look like complete trash. And while this is technically a 14mp sensor, that counts all three layers, so the image itself is just over 4mp in size. It really does look good! But it's still a small file. If you have gotten this far, you may have some idea of whether you're interested, but just in case you skipped down here without reading the stuff in the middle, let me just say again:

DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA IF YOU WANT A POINT AND SHOOT CAMERA. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU WANT AN ALL-PURPOSE CAMERA. ONLY BUY THIS IF YOU WANT A FOVEON X3 SENSOR AND YOU'RE WILLING TO SUFFER FOR IT.
