Description:
This is the third album from the creative partnership of Anders Jormin and singer/violinist/violist Lena Willemark, who first released their ECM collaboration in 2004 with the album In Winds, In Light. In 2015, they released a new project, Trees of Light, with koto player Karin Nakagawa. And this time, they have further expanded their improvisational range with the addition of Anders' longtime companion, Bobo Stenson Trio drummer Jon Feldt. The work explores many creative ideas that arise from the juxtaposition of poetry and music. Jormin casts the net wide, combining ancient Chinese and Japanese texts with contemporary Scandinavian poetry, and also setting the words of Mexican writer Octavio Paz and Renaissance Italian lyric poet Petrarch. The brilliant Willemark thus sings a cross-section of world poetry and adds his own compositions to the program.Anders Jormin: "When the unique musical dialects of each musician mix and communicate, with curious ears, something stronger than the voices of the four of us may awaken. Something that is not pre-determined or controlled," he commented. The result is "carefully crystallized, heartfelt music. Personnel] Anders Jormin (double-b), Lena Willemark (vo, vln, vla), Karin Nakagawa (25-string koto), Jon Falt (ds, perc)
