Prokofiev (1891-1953)
Description:
Maria Mirshtein sings with deep feeling ProkofievBorn in Moscow to a musical family, Maria Mirshtein is a French-Russian violinist who studied with Augustin Dumay in Belgium. She has released two duo albums with her sister, pianist Natalia Mirshtein, on the MIRARE label, and has been a guest on the Bush Trio's recording of Dvorak's Piano Quintet (ALPHA 403). The album features two violin concertos: No. 1, written by Prokofiev in his 20s, which has a modern impression with its interplay of meditative and moving compositions, and No. 2, written in his 40s, which returns somewhat to the classics and is characterized by its use of percussion instruments and rhythms. Both of his parents were fond of Prokofiev, and Milshtein has unforgettable memories of the strong impression he had when he first heard David Oistrakh's recording of No. 1, and the beauty and depth he felt when he heard No. 2 a few years later. This album is the fulfillment of his long-cherished wish. In this album, her wish came true, and she delivers a richly extended cantabile that makes the listener feel the depth of her devotion, as well as lively passages that fully demonstrate her high level of technique and expressive power.
