he Land

Masseria del Pino is truly tiny - one hectare of 120-year-old bush vines in Contrada Pino tucked away, out of sight at 800 metres of altitude. Planted with Nerello Muscalese and a field blend of whites, Cesare Fulvio and Federica Turillo makes three wines from the tiny vineyard, all without added sulphites. The couple moved to Etna from their nearby native Catania, leaving their jobs to seek serenity in the Northern face of Etna. Despite the goldrush atmosphere to gulp up vineyards and bulldoze historic terraces to capitalise on the worldwide popularity of Etna, the estate has remained the same farm with olive trees, chestnut, oak & cherry trees surround the vineyard. The traditional Palmento (winery) on the property is used for winemaking. Artisanal and minuscule annual production of 250 cases that we are extremely excited to bring to you all.

Vinification

The grapes were harvested at the beginning of October from plants scattered in the drystone walls around the vineyard. Some grapes are from wild vines in the woods. Grapes are de-stemmed and macerated in small wooden vats for around an hour, then pressed in a vertical basket press and fermented in 500L old oak barrels. The wine has undergone malolactic fermentation. Every single procedure is done under the full moon, hence the name of the cuvee. Refermentation occurred in the bottle, so SuperLuna is a sparkling rosè with no added sulphites.

The Wine

The SuperLuna is a light, rose-coloured sparkling wine with plenty of fruits. The nose brings us to a fresh strawberry field with a supporting cast of raspberries and red fruits. The mouthfeel is smooth with gentle bubbles wrapping around the tongue. Light and fresh, super enjoyable.
