Czech composer Georg Dorzhetsky is best known for his "Concerto for Six Timpani and Orchestra. Originally an oboist who studied oboe with Carlo Besotti in Dresden, he joined an infantry regiment in Hep (German name: Egel) and was stationed in Vienna, Linz, and Branau, where he made his name as a drummer and organized his own orchestra. Most of his works, including the aforementioned concerto, were written for his own orchestra, but his ten "Oboe Quartets" composed between 1807 and 1808, in the last years of his life, are almost unknown.
