Description:
From the 17th to the 19th century, the "Turin Academy of Music" was the object of admiration of the English aristocracy. The network between London and Turin was strengthened, and the English aristocracy and their teachers were enrolled in Turin, while the doctrine of Freemasonry, a fraternal organization originating in England, spread to other European countries. Conversely, Italian writers, painters, sculptors, and musicians traveled to England to absorb the new culture. This album features works by Felice Giardini and Johann Christian Bach, two composers active in England who bridged the two cultures. Giardini was active in Europe as a harpsichordist and violinist, and later became a successful composer and entertainer when he staged an Italian opera at King's Theatre in London in 1752. J.C. Bach, the youngest son of J.C. Bach, studied in Italy before moving to London. Their works are performed by Rustray, an ensemble that performs 17th- and 18th-century repertoire on ancient instruments based on historical interpretations. Naxos Japan
