Frequently asked questions

Can this soft armor be shipped to my state?

The CaliberX cannot be shipped to New York or Connecticut due to state body armor restrictions. It is subject to US export regulations (EAR/ITAR), and export outside the US without proper authorization is prohibited. Under 18 U.S.C. § 931, anyone with a federal felony conviction for a crime of violence is prohibited from purchasing or possessing body armor.

What is the difference between Level IIIA and HG2?

Level IIIA is the legacy threat designation under NIJ Standard-0101.06 and HG2 is the equivalent designation under the updated NIJ Standard-0101.07. Both describe handgun-rated soft armor tested against the same class of high-performance handgun threats. The CaliberX meets or exceeds both standards, so it is current regardless of which designation your application references.

Will this panel stop rifle rounds?

No. Level IIIA / HG2 soft armor is rated for handgun threats only. It stops rounds including the .44 Magnum, .357 SIG, and 9mm, but it will not stop rifle-caliber projectiles. If rifle-rated protection is required, a hard armor plate at Level III, III+, or IV must be added to the system.

Can I wash this panel?

Do not machine wash or machine dry soft armor panels. Refer to the CaliberX Care, Use, & Fitting Guide for specific maintenance instructions. Improper laundering can degrade the ballistic fiber structure and compromise the panel's protective performance.

Is this panel suitable for a backpack or bag?

Yes. Caliber Armor has verified the CaliberX in the 11x14 size for the ETronic Backpack and the Jansport laptop compartment. The flexible rectangle format also fits a range of briefcases and larger bags. Contact us about custom sizing if your bag's dimensions fall outside the standard rectangle format.

Does this panel require a carrier or vest?

It depends on the application. The CaliberX is a bare insert designed to be placed inside a soft armor carrier, tactical vest, or a bag's ballistic compartment. It does not include a carrier. For body-worn use, a compatible soft armor carrier or plate carrier with a soft armor backer pocket is required.
