Born in Germany and educated in Berlin, Künnecke studied music under Max Bruch and established his reputation as a composer after working as a chorus conductor at a regional theater in Berlin. At first he wrote dramatic music, but in the theater where he worked after World War I, he became interested in operettas, and since then he devoted his life to composing operettas, including his masterpiece "Somewhere My Cousin". However, the three pieces included in this album are "Piano Concerto," which shows the influence of jazz that dominated the 1920s, "Serenade," in the tradition of Brahms and Reger, and "Zigoinelweisen," which effectively incorporates gypsy melodies.
