Pfitzner (1869-1949)
Description:
This is the third collection of complete songs by late Romantic composer Pfitzner. This album contains two notable song cycles: "Love Songs" from 1924, a tightly-knit collection of six songs that Pfitzner himself specified must be sung in their entirety, without changing the order of the songs. The "Six Songs" of 1931 are divided into two parts: the first three are about past loves and unfulfilled longings, while the remaining three depict scenes of nature and the human heart. The early "Slender Water Lilies," with its introspective atmosphere that shows Schumann's influence, and the innocent beauty of "Christmas Song," with its children's chorus, are also captivating.
