Rata Del Viejo Mundo
Description:
A fresh album that sheds light on the unknown master of the Late Flemish Music School and his secular works! The ensemble Latas del Viejo Mundo is an ensemble of singers of great individuality and taste, who create a distinctive sound with unique choruses, each with their own distinctive flavor. The RAMEE label's releases are always unique and entertaining, and this is certainly the case with this collection of de Monte's works. Philippe De Monte was a late Renaissance genius who lived in the same period as Lassus, Palestrina, and Victoria, and belonged to a rather late generation of Flemish musicians, who at the end of their active period were beginning to see the music known as Baroque. Born in Mechelen in Habsburg Flanders, he trained in Italy and served emperors Maximilian and Rudolf successively in Vienna, and was very active in the latter's court in Prague. His overflowing talent is carried through in the beauty of each piece, whether it is an Italian madrigale, written earlier than Marenzio and Monteverdi, or a French chanson from the same period as Rougenu, Lassus, and others. This is a brilliant piece of interpretation that makes good use of the lyrics, while the gamba and repellent strings add exquisite entertainment.
