The Chase Tactical JOEY Level IIIA Soft Armor Insert delivers NIJ 0101.06 certified ballistic protection for the lower abdomen, engineered specifically to fit the Chase Tactical JOEY Utility Pouch. Built from Kevlar with Advanced Ballistic Matrix Materials (ABMM) construction, this panel measures just 0.26 inches thick, weighs 5 oz, and carries a Level IIIA stand-alone rating against handgun rounds. It appears on the NIJ Compliant Products List (CPL) under NIJ Standard 0101.06. Sold as individual units, BERRY compliant, and manufactured in the USA.
This insert fits directly into the Chase Tactical JOEY Utility Pouch, which is its sole designed carrier. The pouch features a dedicated soft armor pocket sized and shaped to accept this panel. The insert is not a universal fit for generic abdominal or cummerbund pouches — verify your JOEY Utility Pouch is on hand before ordering. Contact us if you have fitment questions.
The JOEY insert provides Level IIIA stand-alone protection against handgun threats to the lower abdominal zone, a coverage gap that standard front and back plates do not address. The panel uses Kevlar soft armor with ABMM technology in a sonobond-sealed, rip-stop water-resistant cover. The sonobond sealing process bonds the cover edges without stitching, reducing water intrusion points. The panel supports multi-hit performance at Level IIIA threat parameters.
At 0.26 inches thick and 5 oz, the insert adds almost no perceptible profile to the JOEY pouch. The rip-stop cover maintains its water resistance across field conditions, protecting the Kevlar core from moisture degradation.
This insert is NIJ Listed under NIJ Standard 0101.06 at Level IIIA and appears on the NIJ Compliant Products List (CPL). Level IIIA is the highest handgun-rated protection level under NIJ 0101.06, rated to stop threats including .357 SIG FMJ Flat Nose and .44 Magnum SJHP. This rating does not cover rifle-caliber threats — the insert is designed for handgun-threat mitigation only.
This insert is designed exclusively for the Chase Tactical JOEY Utility Pouch. The pouch has a dedicated armor pocket shaped to accept this panel. It is not a general-purpose insert for other pouches or carriers. If you are unsure whether your existing JOEY pouch accepts this insert, contact us before ordering.
Yes. The JOEY insert is NIJ Listed under NIJ Standard 0101.06 at Level IIIA and appears on the NIJ Compliant Products List (CPL). It carries a stand-alone Level IIIA rating, meaning it does not require a hard plate backer to meet its rated performance.
Level IIIA under NIJ 0101.06 covers handgun threats up to and including .357 SIG FMJ Flat Nose at 1,470 fps and .44 Magnum Semi-Jacketed Hollow Point at 1,430 fps. It does not stop rifle-caliber rounds. For rifle threats, a rated hard armor plate is required.
The panel is 0.26 inches thick and weighs 5 oz. Its areal density is 1.19 psf (5.6 kg/m²). At that profile, it fits inside the JOEY pouch without adding noticeable bulk to the wearer's loadout.
It adds rated ballistic coverage. The JOEY insert provides Level IIIA ballistic protection — it is a certified armor panel, not a trauma pad or foam backer. It stops handgun rounds independently rather than simply attenuating impact energy behind another plate.
This insert cannot be shipped to Connecticut or New York due to state body armor restrictions. Under 18 U.S.C. § 931, anyone with a federal felony conviction for a crime of violence is prohibited from purchasing or possessing body armor.
