Additional Details: Exhibition poster created for “Paysages de France: De l’Impressionnisme à Nos Jours”, held at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen from July 5 through September 21, 1958. The striking modernist composition was designed by French artist Fernand Léger, whose bold use of black contour lines, geometric forms, and saturated primary colors transformed the traditional landscape into a dynamic postwar visual statement. Rather than depicting a romantic countryside view associated with Impressionism, Léger presents an industrialized and structured interpretation of the French landscape, reflecting the transition of France into the modern era. The juxtaposition between nature and architecture echoes the exhibition’s theme—tracing the evolution of French landscape painting from the Impressionists to contemporary artists of the mid-20th century. Printed in France in 1958, this original exhibition poster is highly collectible for its strong graphic presence and its connection to one of the most important French modernists of the 20th century. Works by Léger from this period embody the optimism and visual energy of postwar European design and remain increasingly sought after by collectors of museum posters and modern graphic art. An excellent example of the pre-digital poster era, where typography, color separation, and lithographic printing techniques combined to create exhibition posters that were artworks in their own right. Framing available upon request..
