Edward Gorey (1925–2000)

Gorey was an American author and illustrator celebrated for his distinct, cross-hatched, black-and-white drawings that combined Victorian/Edwardian settings with macabre, surreal, and humorous narratives.

He published over 100 whimsical, often sinister books, including The Evil Garden.
