Dexter Gordon
Description:
Dexter Gordon, first release of rare '62 and '63 recordings from his early European periodDuring his European period (1962-1976), Dexter Gordon actively pursued a professional career based in his beloved Denmark. His arrival in Europe after a turbulent period in the U.S. gave him a fresh start and renewed vigor, and he built a large part of his discography that is regarded as the pinnacle of his career. However, very few recordings were made between 1962 and 1964, and this album, recorded in 1962 and 1963, is extremely valuable as a record of his new departure. The first three tracks have his own comments at the beginning. Compared to the Blue Note recordings with Sonny Clarke and other musicians, the performance of M-1, which is full of melancholy and has exquisite timing, projects the atmosphere of Niels Pedersen and other Scandinavian musicians more intensely. Dexter Gordon, one of the storytellers of the jazz world, takes center stage. It sets the stage for a dramatic renaissance in his career, filling in one of the chapters that has been missing for so long." (From the liner notes by Neil Tesser)
