Tokyo Stories" is my "dedication" to the Japanese capital, Tokyo. Having visited the neon jungle some 40 times, it seemed only natural to record my music there, and thus I began composing most of the songs in the city I have come to love, Tokyo. Inspiration came from my local customs, traditions, and the places I visited. A musician friend from Japan came to the studio and joined us for the recording session--and incidentally, the Sony Music Studios in Nogizaka is one of the most beautiful studios I have ever recorded in! --And I also recorded a lot of "Sound of City". These field recordings are the heart of the project, and they are heard throughout the album. In a city as huge, alien, and utterly unimaginable as Tokyo, there is a need for rather short pieces.
