Description:
The complete works of Witold Lutoslawski, one of the leading composers of modern Poland. The eighth collection is a collection of Christmas carols. The 20 carols in this collection do not include such well-known classics as "Three Doctors of the East," "Silent Night," and "The Last Supper," but they are a collection of lullabies and pastoral songs that have been well-loved in Poland. All have familiar melodies, and the lullabies have a homey atmosphere and Slavic lyricism. Of particular note is track 11, the lullaby "Lulajze, Jezuniu Nemure, O Infant Jesus. This is the melody Chopin used in the middle section of Scherzo No. 1. Lutoslawski adds modern harmonies to these familiar and traditional carols, creating a dreamlike world of harp, strings, and chorus.
