Brasil em Concerto, a project led by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is an unprecedented large-scale project in which a Brazilian orchestra will perform and record approximately 100 works composed in the 19th and 20th centuries. In 2022, the bicentennial of Brazilian independence, the recording of the complete symphonic works of Claudio Santoro, considered the most important symphonist in the history of Brazilian music, will begin. Santoro, who studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, abstractly incorporated Brazilian folk idioms into his own works in a more creatively developed form. composed in 1955 and premiered in Rio de Janeiro the following year, Symphony No. 5 is Santoro's masterpiece, with the first movement's mysterious The opening section of the symphony uses the increasing third and minor seventh chords found in the traditional music of northeastern Brazil, but these are incorporated into the counterpoint that Santoro developed in his own unique way. Composed in 1960, "Symphony No. 7" is considered the most complex of Santoro's works. It begins with an impressive four-note first movement, followed by an adagio in the second movement. The lively third movement still retains the motif of the opening movement.The final movement is a variety of motifs that seem to govern everything, culminating in an intense climax.
