Introduction

Dailuaine, meaning "green valley" in Gaelic, was founded in 1852 by farmer William Mackenzie in the heart of Speyside near Aberlour. The distillery holds a remarkable place in whisky history: in 1889, it became home to Scotland's very first pagoda roof, designed by Charles Doig — a structure that would become the defining architectural symbol of Scotch distilleries worldwide. Today, Dailuaine is a Diageo workhorse producing a rich, meaty, and occasionally sulphury spirit that is highly prized by independent bottlers. Only about 2% of its output is ever released as single malt, with the rest disappearing into Johnnie Walker. This 12-year-old in a refill Oloroso hogshead showcases Dailuaine's full-bodied, sherry-friendly character at its best.
