Shostakovich, Dmitri (1906-1975)
Description:
Tugan Sohiyev and the Orchestre National de Toulouse Capitole perform a new Shostakovich interpretation that clarifies the coherence and density of the work A series of Shostakovich symphonies by Tugan Sohiyev and the Orchestre National de Toulouse Capitole that began in 2019.The 2019 recording of 《 Shostakovich: Symphony No. 8," was acclaimed as "a new interpretation that showed not only the coherence and density of the work with clarity, but also its impressive facets. The "Symphony No. 10" was a response to the Soviet authorities' embarrassment over the Eighth Symphony and Stalin's fury over the Ninth Symphony, which he had expected to be a grand symphony; until his death in 1953, Shostakovich avoided censure by composing works that were in line with the Soviet authorities' propaganda. Eight years after the Ninth Symphony, the Tenth Symphony was published in 1953, the year of Stalin's death. Shostakovich himself described it as "the conclusion of the war trilogy" and said, "I wanted to depict human emotion and passion. This work has many flaws, but it is still lovely. In this 2021 recording of Symphony No. 10, Sohiyev remains the same, focusing entirely on the tensions of the story and playing it with a new interpretation that is incandescent, throwing it into the turbulent world of music. The Orchestre National de Toulouse-Capitole, described as "the only French orchestra capable of playing this repertoire in this way," gave an enthusiastic performance that perfectly matched the rhythmic chemistry of Sohiyev and the orchestra. Imported only by Warner Music Japan, with a Japanese-language commentary by Ryosuke Masuda and a Japanese obi.
