The Pacific Northwest Trail will challenge you over a length of 1200 miles/ 1930 km from the Continental Divide in Montana to the Pacific Ocean on the Olympic Coast in Washington. Along the way, you will cross 3 National Parks and a whopping 7 National Forests. The Pacific Northwest Trail starts in Glacier National Park, traversing the east-west side of the Rocky Mountains, winds its way through the North Cascades National Park, and finishes at Cape Alava in Olympic National Park. In 2009 the trail was approved as a National Scenic Trail and is the youngest trail with that title. And thus called the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail, the trail is certainly not a walk in the park, as the trail runs East to West, it traverses over many mountain ranges leading to steep climbs and descents. Due to its length, you will be able to encounter some beautiful wildlife such as grizzly bears, black bears, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, elk, moose, osprey, eagles, mountain goats, and wolves. Along the coastal fringes, you could be lucky to spot a whale or orca.
