Description:
Plumzoller's new recordings! Unpublished sonatas by Hellendahl! Johannes Plumzoller is a baroque violinist of the "21st century generation", a young virtuoso who has made his way from South Tyrol to the world, leading the Ensemble Diderot and the International Baroque Players, as well as being a member of his teacher Rachel Podger's Brecon Baroque. In 2013, he launched his own label, Audax, and has since been using his advanced skills and in-depth knowledge to uncover the hidden Baroque repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries. Plumzoller's newest discovery is the Dutch-born composer/violinist Peter Hellendahl (1721-1791), who was active in England during the late Baroque period. He did not settle in London, but moved to Oxford and King's Lynn, and after 1762 settled in Cambridge, where he spent his life as an organist and teacher. Here we have the first six of eleven sonatas, the manuscript scores of which are kept in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and which have never been published. With its quintessential melodic line and intelligence in its dramatic structure, the work shows that Herendahl was a fully competent composer and violinist.
