This is one of the earliest recordings of Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic, and is a well-reputed masterpiece that skillfully drives the Berlin Philharmonic, which has outstanding performance skills, and brings out their abilities. This is the only session recording of "Matisse the Painter" by Karajan. Karajan's outstanding direction shines through as well as Bartók's.
