Unconscious Mind is a euro-style game with worker placement, engine building, multiple rondels and cascading effects. During your turn, you can place one or two ideas (workers) on a central conference table to access various actions, such as adding tiles to your player board, drafting and playing cards, and moving through the city of Vienna. Where you place your ideas also determines how far you advance your rondel's inkwell, activating a row or column of tile effects on your player board.

To treat your clients and interpret their dreams, you need to work with a supply of insight sources. As you work from superficial dreams to deep-seated dreams, these insights will help your clients achieve catharsis. This is shown by removing transparent layers from the client cards, unlocking their ongoing special abilities and endgame scoring abilities.

Once the group has solidified its reputation, the end of the game is announced, and the member with the most points wins.
