The appeal is controlled diving depth and contact with the strike zone, not delicate surface work.

Retrieve it steadily until it reaches its working depth, then use pauses or rod sweeps when it hits cover, ledges, or current.

A diving lure often gets bites when it deflects, changes direction, or hangs in front of fish rather than swimming perfectly cleanly.

It is strongest around drop-offs, deep rock, timber edges, trolling lanes, and fish holding below bait.

It is not the first pick for very shallow snaggy water or fish feeding on the surface.
