The King Helmet conch (Cassis tuberosa) is a large marine snail found in tropical western Atlantic waters, particularly around the Caribbean and Florida. It’s known for its heavy, beautiful shell and lives on sandy bottoms near coral reefs.

Cultural Note

In Yoruba cosmology each òrìṣà governs specific aspects of nature and human life. In the Lucumí tradition this shell is often associated with the òrìṣà Eshu, the divine messenger and guardian of crossroads and destiny.
