Octomore 13.3 is crafted entirely from barley cultivated on a single Islay farm, showcasing the intense flavor that arises when super-heavy peat meets the unique harvest conditions of the island. This expression matures in first fill ex-American whiskey barrels, complemented by second fill European oak casks sourced from France’s Rivesaltes and Spain’s Ribera del Duero regions. Working with Islay barley is a true privilege, and presenting it as a single estate, vintage, and malt elevates its character profoundly. Each year, Head Distiller Adam Hannett refines the base spirit influenced by the grower’s crop, evolving climate, weather, and the specific terroir of the field. The European oak imparts refined structure, while the American oak allows the spirit’s core to shine. Flavors of vanilla and brown sugar merge with fresh, rounded green fruit, while gentle, dry smoke develops into a lengthy finish featuring subtle notes of creosote and sea spray.
