When a concrete roof or balcony needs waterproofing that withstands direct sunlight and occasional foot traffic, a standard membrane won't hold up. Everflex WPUV delivers robust, UV-stable protection. It is engineered for direct exposure, ensuring the membrane performs as designed, season after season.

Why this product exists

Standard waterproofing membranes degrade quickly under the harsh Australian sun, leading to premature failure and costly reworks. Everflex WPUV is a high-performance, Class III waterborne polyurethane membrane specifically formulated to resist UV radiation and light foot traffic. It delivers a durable, flexible, and fully bonded seal where the membrane remains exposed to the elements, such as on roofs and balconies, or under pedestal-tiled systems.

The numbers that matter

  • Class III Elastomeric Membrane: This classification, compliant with AS4858:2004 and AS4654.1, confirms high flexibility. It allows the membrane to stretch and contract with substrate movement, preventing cracking and maintaining its seal on exposed concrete roofs and balconies.
  • UV Resistant: Formulated for direct UV exposure, Everflex WPUV avoids the common issues of chalking, embrittlement, and delamination seen in standard membranes. This ensures long-term integrity and performance in demanding outdoor conditions.
  • Permeability 2.2 g/m²/24h: A low water vapour permeability ensures the membrane acts as an effective barrier, protecting the substrate from moisture ingress while allowing some breathability to prevent trapped moisture issues within the building envelope.
  • Withstands Maintenance Foot Traffic: Engineered to endure occasional foot traffic for cleaning or maintenance without damage, providing an additional layer of practicality for accessible outdoor areas.

What it's like to use

Everflex WPUV is a single-component, ready-to-use formulation. After proper surface preparation and priming with an appropriate primer like Everflex VBS for external applications, apply WPUV thoroughly mixed with a brush or roller. Achieve a consistent wet film thickness of 0.75mm per coat. Apply a minimum of two coats at right angles to each other to reach the required dry film thickness. Recoat time is typically 2-4 hours, with a final cure before tiling of 48 hours. Clean up wet tools and spills easily with water.

Where this product excels

  • Roofing — Concrete Roofs, Membrane-Covered Tiled: Everflex WPUV is repeatedly specified as the primary exposed waterproofing membrane on concrete roofs. It provides a durable, UV-stable barrier that maintains its integrity under constant sun exposure, crucial for the long-term performance of the building envelope.
  • Balconies, Podiums, Door/Window Reveals, Flashings: On external balconies and podiums, where the membrane is visible and subjected to weather and occasional foot traffic, WPUV serves as the main waterproofing layer. Its flexibility and UV resistance protect against water ingress and degradation.
  • Concrete — Membrane Covered, Tiled: When waterproofing concrete slabs that will be tiled, especially those exposed to the elements, WPUV forms a robust, tile-adhesive-friendly membrane. It ensures a continuous waterproof layer that remains stable beneath the tile finish.

How it fits in a real system

Everflex WPUV functions as the primary waterproofing membrane in systems requiring UV resistance and light trafficability. For external applications, prepare the substrate thoroughly and prime with a two-part epoxy primer like Everflex VBS. Once primed, apply WPUV as the main membrane. For additional mechanical protection and slip resistance in trafficable areas, you can apply a non-slip topcoat, such as Gripset LS, over the cured WPUV membrane.

Choose this when

  • When waterproofing concrete roofs, parapets, or balconies: Especially where the membrane will be directly exposed to sunlight and occasional maintenance traffic, such as beneath pedestal systems.
  • When you need Class III flexibility and UV stability: To accommodate substrate movement and prevent degradation from harsh outdoor conditions.
  • When tiling over an exposed external membrane: Everflex WPUV is compatible with solvent-free tile adhesives and designed to perform under tiled finishes in external areas.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Continuous heavy vehicle traffic. Everflex WPUV is designed for maintenance foot traffic only.
  • Not for: Damp, wet, or contaminated substrates. Ensure all surfaces are dry and clean before application to guarantee proper adhesion.
  • Not for: Negative hydrostatic pressure or rising damp. This product forms a positive side barrier and is not designed to resist pressure from the substrate side.
  • Not for: Buried, under-tile systems with no UV exposure: For internal, concealed under-tile applications, consider an alternative Class III membrane such as Everflex WPM, which is formulated for that specific environment.

Everflex WPUV has been tested to the National Construction Code (NCC) for compliance with AS4858:2004 and AS4654.1:2012 standards. This ensures its suitability as an elastomeric, liquid-applied waterproofing membrane for both internal and external applications, providing confidence in its performance and longevity.
