Gene Baker at b3 guitars has built quite the name for himself as a world renowned guitar builder; working with many of the worlds finest luthiers and guitar companies around. He's been the head Master Builder at the Fender Custom Shop, was a builder at the Gibson Custom Shop and built many instruments under the Premier Builders Guild, for names such as Koll, Fano, Gustavsson, Giffin and Schroeder. To say he has been prolific in the world of high end guitars would be an understatement.

Now with his focus on his own line of fully hand built b3's and no longer building for other brands, Gene is a force to be reckoned with. The attention to detail on each new b3 we've had in, is second to none. These are immaculate guitars that bring something new and honest to the table. 

The Sahara Plus 6 String with a hollow body is a rare b3 model that Gene loves to build given the opportunity. 

This one comes outfitted with a lightweight hollow body, designed to not feedback like most hollow bodies do. The entire guitar weighs in at just 6lbs 4oz. The top is carved from Flame Maple and dyed a Charcoal tint. The back and sides are made of Mahogany. This is a very lightweight and well balanced instrument to say the least. The playability is effortless with a low and slinky action. Each note you play blooms through your amp like an acoustic instrument as if it were breathing.

The neck profile has a very modern feel to it, as it is a slightly asymmetrical C Carve; so that it fits your hand like a glove. This is not a heavy asymmetrical carve. It is all about comfort. Without telling people the neck profile on this instrument; they would likely just think its a comfortable and fast Modern Medium C shape.

The headless design, takes away the biggest issue that all non-headless guitar designs have. The headstock on a typical guitar is the part of an instrument that vibrates the most, due to it being the thinnest piece of wood on the entire guitar. This eats up tons of resonance and energy, causing the top of the guitar not to vibrate at it's fullest. With headless guitars all of the energy gets distributed evenly and the top vibrates as it should. 

The Lollar Imperial Humbucking pickups in this guitar are very lively and inviting. You will be shocked by the clarity and touch sensitivity that they provide, both clean or dirty. In this instrument they are the perfect match. 

The Sophia Tremolo System is also a delight. Besides for it looking like a very high-end and well built trem unit, it can do just about anything you want it to. Right now it is setup to float/pull back, but it can be adjusted for either further pull-back or none at all if you prefer. Guitar World Magazine says this about it: 

"The Sophia tremolo’s design is such a vast improvement over previous systems that it’s an understatement to call it the most significant tremolo system upgrade introduced since the Floyd Rose." -Guitar World.
