Mashhad workshop register, eastern Iran

Mashhad — the principal city of Khorasan province in eastern Iran — developed a distinct workshop tradition separate from Tehran. The carpets carry slightly denser pile, looser floral handling, and a different relationship between medallion and field. Where Tehran urban workshops tightened the geometry for apartment living, Mashhad workshops kept a provincial fullness suited to larger eastern-Iran rooms.
