When I first saw this fantastic pair of vintage Japanese tiered Art Deco ceramic planters glazed a rich, bright orange, what immediately came to mind was a rule in home staging about the importance and optimal frequency of “pops of color” to draw your eye around a room, and the notion that these would make for the perfect happy “pops” in a minimalist white kitchen. Regardless, between color (which makes most any plant look fabulous), shape and size, I think they are planter perfection. Based on the mark, I believe they date between the mid-1930s and mid-40s.
Each planter measures 5 1/8” tall; 6 3/4” diameter at top; 3 1/4" diameter at base. There is one little hairline crack on one planter that runs from the lip down about a third of the way on one planter, which would not be visible once there is a plant inside, and they are otherwise in very good condition.
