Whenever we look at this 1945 menu cover, which features an "Eater's Digest of a Gastronomical Journey through the USA", we always find something new. It's packed with amazing details and we particularly love the ships sailing in and bringing food items such as pineapples, coffee and bananas which aren't grown in the US. Also note the compass with knife, fork and spoon on the left hand side. The Neil House was Columbus's hotel of choice for the rich and powerful throughout much of the 19th and 20th centuries. It started out as a tavern in the 1820s growing into a luxury 600 room hotel which played host to at least fifteen Presidents including Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, William McKinley, William Howard Taft, Warren G. Harding and Theodore Roosevelt. Other notable guests over the years included Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde, Amelia Earhart and Eleanor Roosevelt. The Neil House was torn down in the 1970s as part of a major downtown Columbus re-development.
