This wonderful reverse painting on glass, presumed mid- to late-19th century, would originally have been a decorative pane on a large clock, probably installed right below the clock’s face. I love the various framing devices that position the woman—who, to me, looks positively Goya-esque—at center stage; it's as if she herself, who appears to be sprinkling magic dust in the air, is responsible for keeping time moving forward!
I’d probably just prop this piece in the window, but a hanger could easily be mounted on the backside (which is almost as great as the front!) or it could certainly be framed. There is some loss of paint, primarily on the curtains, but I think this just adds to its aura!
