I paid quite a bit for this one, but I just fell in love with him. And it struck me as a good  one for the moment (thinking about protesters in Portland wearing costumes and  making music in the face of the National Guard et al), and for me the flute seems like the peacemaker of instruments, leading the troops, as it were, to some resolution.) Our flutist here is Civil War era, wearing a military uniform, including fabulous plumed hat--a few other examples of which I've found out there worn by military musicians, 1860s. I'm not a Civil War military related photography expert in the least, but good portraits of musicians seem relatively scarce--and he's a very handsome one too! With what looks to be like subtly pinked cheeks.
