Detail photos give the best and most accurate sense of the wonderful off-key colors and abundance of charms in this terrific earlyish 20th c. folk art painting, signed J. Perlee Shilling. I've found a Joshua PerLee Shilling (1885-1947) from a long line of Perlees and Shllings in Tuscaraw Township in Stark, Ohio, who I think was likely its maker, and I'd be willing to bet the painting is of the family home. It wins me on both a macro and micro scale--the bold (and very Arts and Crafts) yellow and green combo is about as good as it gets I think, and then these trees, every leaf painted, and a few birds (or blooms?) in there among them as well. Plus the minty/mossy green shades on windows, especially the center front one, with creamy white peeking through the bottom. Yum.
Oil on board, in excellent shape and framed in a terrific old grain painted solid wood frame. Painting measures 19 1/2" x 12 1/4". Framed 22 3/4" x 15 1/2" x 3/4".
