No way could I resist this one, found this week at one of the New Hampshire week shows, and which felt like it was just waiting for me. It is a very naive memorial to an Elizabeth G. Davis, who died Oct. 29, 1812 at 11 weeks old, with tombstone drawing at top flanked by wispy watercolored willows, verse below, wonderful little blue bird with sprig in its beak, and all sorts of tender imperfections, down to the insertion of middle initial "G" just above the rest of her name and "to see" about "the world" below. I know this was just pulled out of a New England estate, and have found photos of tombstones from the early 19th century bearing portions of the same verse: Sleep on, Sweet Babe, and take thy rest. God called thee home..." I believe the frame, with very early, thin blown glass is original to it. 

10 7/8" x 8 3/4". Original frame I am confident, with original, very thin blown glass (only the second frame I have had with such early glass, and that too was an early 19th c. memorial to a child--of NH--featuring a bird rendered in a somewhat similar manner, though one embroidered.) Both frame and glass in very good condition. One stain to the paper bottom right corner and a bit of loss to the black inked rectangle along left edge. Original wire hanging loop at top.
