These versatile, stainless steel shears are made by a longstanding kitchenware manufacturer in Sanjō, a metalworking town in Niigata Prefecture. They've been advertising these cool-looking scissors on Japanese TV as a tool for making instant curry, because you can squeeze out the boiling sauce packet with the built-in tube key. We saw them and naturally thought of how useful they'd be in the art studio.

You can actually do a lot more than 5 things with this tool, but we've picked the top five things that artists will likely use them for:

CUT — Of course, these shears are sharp and precise. Use them on paper, fabric, twine, and most other art materials.

SQUEEZE — A tube key is welded onto one side of the 5-in-1 shears. You can use it to squeeze paint out of mostly-empty metal tubes.

GRAB — Between the cutout section in the blades and the tip, the 5-in-1 Shears aren't sharpened. That little section at the end is a grabber, useful for getting things out of small openings or even pulling a tack out of the wall.

TWIST — The area between the handles is ribbed; you can use it as a tube or bottle opener for stubborn or stuck caps.

POP — One side of the 5-in-1 Shears has a 'church-key' style can opener, perfect for popping holes and opening metal lids.
