The denim shirt, reimagined.

DEE is the organic cotton denim shirt we built for the women who live between the water and the long Sunday lunch — thrown over swimwear at the beach, pulled on over linen for the afternoon, worn alone with bare legs at sunset.

Heavyweight 235gsm garment-washed organic denim, indigo yarn-dyed, with refined shirt construction throughout — point collar with single-needle topstitch, double-pleated cuffs, embroidered OD signature on the chest.

A piece that looks better wet than most things look dry.

Backed by nine independent sustainability certifications. Made by paid hands in a Fair Wear factory.

DESIGNED IN BYRON BAY HINTERLAND

WHY YOU'LL LIVE IN IT

DEE is the denim shirt you'll throw over everything, for years.

Over the bikini walking back to the car at sunset. Over the slip dress at the long Friday dinner. Over the linen trousers at the morning market. Pulled on with nothing underneath at the back of the house, bare legs to the sand.

The 235gsm organic denim is heavy enough to hold its shape, light enough to layer comfortably in summer. The garment wash means it arrives soft and lived-in — none of that stiff, scratchy new-denim feeling that takes a year to wear out of a cheaper shirt.

The embroidered OD emblem won't crack or peel. The double-pleated cuff won't fray. The single-needle topstitched seams won't pucker after the third wash.

This is the denim shirt that becomes part of your life, not just your wardrobe.

The one you'll lend to your sister and not get back, and not really mind.

FIT AND SIZING

DEE is cut as a relaxed women's medium fit.

Worn closed and buttoned, it sits clean through the body with the boxy structure you'd expect from a proper denim shirt. Worn open over swimwear or layered over a slip, it falls with relaxed drape from the shoulder.

Model wears size S. She is 178cm tall.

Size guidance:

🤎 Wear your usual size for the relaxed fit you see on the model 🤎 Size down for a closer, more tailored line 🤎 Size up for a true oversized cover-up silhouette

If you plan to wear DEE primarily as a beach cover-up or layering piece over heavier knits in winter, we'd suggest sizing up. For a closer cut as a standalone shirt, wear your usual size or size down.

FABRIC & FEEL

100% certified organic cotton woven denim, ring-spun carded, 235gsm.

Why heavyweight matters: Lighter denim shirts (170-200gsm) feel flimsy, lose their structure within months, and drape poorly when worn open. DEE's 235gsm woven denim has the body of a proper denim piece — substantial in the hand, structured at the shoulder, with the soft hand you only get from genuine garment washing.

Why ring-spun carded: A traditional yarn process that produces denim with the slight irregularities and character that machine-made cotton lacks. The result is denim that develops a unique fade pattern with you over time — every DEE shirt looks slightly different after twelve months of wear. That's the point.

Why indigo yarn-dyed: Each thread is dyed before weaving, not after — which means the colour wears beautifully with age, fading on the high-wear points (cuffs, collar, shoulders) the way only real indigo denim does. The wash you start with is just the beginning.

Garment-washed before shipping — so DEE arrives soft, with the lived-in feel that usually takes months to develop, and minimal further shrinkage in your washing machine.

A note on indigo: Indigo-dyed denim may transfer colour onto light-coloured fabrics on first few wears, particularly when wet. Wash separately for the first three washes, and avoid wearing with pale cream linen or white silk in damp conditions until the indigo has stabilised.

This is the denim your grandmother would have hung on the line to dry.

CARE

🤎 Wash cold (30°C) with similar colours — separately for the first three washes 🤎 No bleach 🤎 No tumble dry 🤎 Iron inside out, low heat 🤎 Do not iron the embroidered emblem 🤎 Hang to dry to maintain shape 🤎 Indigo may bleed slightly — wash with similar colours

Treated kindly, DEE will keep softening and fading beautifully for years.

FAQS

Why is this a pre-sale? DEE is part of our small-batch Episode model — we produce only what's pre-ordered, with a small buffer for size exchanges. No overstock, no markdowns, no waste. Pre-sale guarantees your piece in your size.

Can DEE be worn as a beach cover-up? Yes — that's one of the ways we designed her. Worn open over swimwear, DEE drapes beautifully from the shoulder and provides genuine sun coverage without overheating. The garment-washed cotton is soft enough to wear against bare skin, and the indigo dye is stable enough to handle salt water and sand (though we'd recommend rinsing before machine washing).

Can I wear it in the water? DEE can absolutely get wet — the photography you see was shot in the ocean. That said, prolonged saltwater exposure will accelerate the indigo fade, and chlorine pool water will affect the colour more dramatically. If you plan to swim in DEE regularly, expect her to develop a more sun-bleached patina over time. Many would call this an upgrade.

Will the indigo bleed onto my swimwear? Possibly, in the first few wears — particularly when wet. We'd suggest wearing DEE over dark or patterned swimwear initially. After 3-5 washes, the indigo stabilises and bleeding stops.

How is this different from a regular denim shirt? Most denim shirts (Country Road, Levi's, etc.) use non-organic cotton, polyester-blend thread, and faster construction. DEE is 100% certified-organic cotton, woven in Bangladesh in a Fair Wear factory, with single-needle topstitch construction (not the chain-stitch shortcut used in mass production) and embroidered emblem rather than printed. The fabric is heavier (235gsm vs. typical 180-200gsm), and the dye is real indigo rather than synthetic-mimic.

What's the embroidery thread made of? Cotton — the same certified-organic ring-spun cotton as the shirt itself. We don't use polyester or rayon embroidery thread because they break down at a different rate to the fabric.

Will the colour fade? Yes — that's the point. Real indigo-dyed denim develops a unique fade pattern over time, with high-wear points (cuffs, collar, shoulders, hem) lightening first. This is the character of authentic denim, and it's why we chose woven denim over a faster jersey alternative. DEE will be a different shirt in five years than she is on arrival, and the version you'll love most is the one twelve months from now.

Is DEE part of OD's elevated essentials range? Yes. DEE sits alongside PERRY (the organic long-sleeve polo) as part of our considered everyday pieces — designed for the long wear, the cross-seasonal styling, the women who want sustainable fashion that actually looks like fashion.

FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

DEE is built to wear for twenty years.

Not because the denim is indestructible (no fabric is), but because the fabric improves with age. Real indigo-dyed woven denim, ring-spun and garment-washed, develops a fade pattern that no factory can replicate — the soft worn-in shoulders from where you carry your bag, the lighter cuffs from where you push your sleeves up, the faded placket where the buttons rub against the table.

Every DEE shirt becomes a record of how you actually live.

Every metre of denim starts as GOTS-certified organic cotton, audited annually. Every shirt is sewn in a Fair Wear factory where the makers are paid voluntary living-wage top-ups above the legal minimum. Every embroidered emblem is stitched (not printed) to last as long as the denim itself.

This is fashion for the next generation. And the one after that.
