Armadillo officinalis is a medium-sized species from the Mediterranean and western Black Sea coasts. This cultivar is derived from animals collected from Spain. The species is notable for their stridulating behavior which creates an audible hissing sound. Unlike most other conglobating species, they tend to conglobate even at rest and not only when disturbed.

This species is known for its prolific breeding and ease of cultivation. They can adapt to a wide range of ventilation conditions, however, maintaining humidity and soil moisture is crucial because dry conditions can be fatal. It usually thrives in medium ventilation and semi-moist conditions, but excessive moisture with improper ventilation can lead to higher mortality rates.
