I love an antique set of bone dominoes, but I'm even more partial to homemade wooden ones, which (like antique school slates, though harder to find) I think are a great thing to collect, each set very much its own thing. And it looks to me that the box here was custom made to house these, with fancy, carefully hand-inked lettering, spelling DOMINOE, on the slide lid. Nice irregularity to the placement on the carved out dots (a few of which have caught a little dust which is easily removed with the end of a paperclip; I realize now I didn't catch it all). There is one tile (1:6) missing from the set, so there are 27 rather than 28, but that wouldn't stop me from playing with them, and definitely not from being glad to have them near. Square iron nails holding the box together, and the name James M. Halsted handwritten on the underside of the slide lid.
Box 6 1/4" x 2 3/16" x 1 1/2" t. Domino 1 3/4" x 3/4". One domino missing as noted about and small losses along the slide lid groove, but the lid still slides in all the way, fits snugly, and holds tight.
