This particular book published in 1852 is a memoir of Ellen May Woodward, who tragically drowned along with several other girls when ice gave way beneath them. The memoir was written by the community pastor. Books like this are rather like long form eulogies, emphasizing the deceased’s Christian virtues, holding her up as an example to her community, and assuring those she left behind that she is safely waiting for them in heaven.
