Polwarth sheep were bred in the 1880s as a dual purpose breed that was hardier than Merinos, but retained the fine wool of Merinos. They are a cross of 1/4 Lincoln (a longwool sheep) and 3/4 Merino, which results in a fine wool with a longer staple length, increased luster and durability. Polwarth is well loved in the handspinning community, and it's a joy to bring a Polwarth specific yarn into our selection of hand dyed yarns.
Each 100g (3.5 oz) skein of Polwarth DK contains 300 yards of a lovely 3 ply yarn. Knits up at 5.5-6 stitches to the inch (it can substitute for many sportweight yarns) with a US 4-6 (3.0 - 4.0 mm).
Care: Handwash cold. Lay flat to dry.
